The Best High Heels? Mona Flying Leather Pumps

The best high heels can be hard to find, but not with these.

I’ve never done a product review before, but I recently bought a pair of high heels that I was so impressed by that I decided to try and do them justice with this review. I’d also like to mention that I have never bought a pair of pumps before these, so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. To say the least, I was pleasantly surprised.

I came across Mona Flying’s slip-on pumps on Amazon after browsing for a long time for a simple but elegant pair of high heels. I was specifically looking for heels that weren’t any higher than 3 inches and lo and behold, I came across this beautiful pair.

Immediately, I was impressed by the appearance of the heels, specifically the Black 8 version which I ended up purchasing. The appearance of these heels is unlike any other pair of heels I was able to find on Amazon (or anywhere else for that matter). What makes these heels unique, in my opinion, is that they have more of an old-fashion vintage style which I personally like very much.

The Best High Heels?

The toe is pointed and the heel is on the thicker side in comparison to a stiletto heel, but it is by no means a chunky heel. I would rather say that it is more of a curvy heel because, indeed, it has some curves that most heels don’t. Instead of the heel heading straight down to the ground, the heel on these shoes has a very elegant inward curve that is not only very attractive but helps to keep your weight balanced when walking.

The shoe is also 100% leather. While this might not be great for die-hard vegans, the use of real leather throughout the entire shoe makes it especially durable. The outer part of the shoe is made specifically from sheepskin and you can tell just by looking at it that it is of particularly high quality compared to other shoes that use fake leather.

The inner part of the shoe is also made from real leather but it is pig leather instead of sheep leather. However, I personally can’t tell the difference between the two types of leather. They are both very soft and supple.

I was expecting the leather to be stiff since new leather shoes tend to be very stiff and require a breaking-in period. On the contrary, when I first got these shoes, I was impressed by how soft and pliable these shoes already were. Walking around in them, they fit perfectly on my foot and they didn’t rub anywhere in a bad way.

The Pros and Cons of Mona Flying High Heels

The heels for these shoes are exactly 2.76 inches tall. This might be a little short for some people, but if you’re a beginner to high heels (like me) you will find that this height is more than satisfactory. Even though 2.7 inches might not sound like a lot, this subtle lift can do wonders when it comes to activating your calves and shaping your legs.

Once you get used to the extra height, walking in these heels is very easy. This is not to mention that they’re really comfortable. Many heels don’t have much cushioning in the soles, but these pumps do. Even on the back of the heel, there is a sturdy layer of cushioning that keeps your heel from slipping out of the shoe. The construction of the cushioning at the midsole and towards the toe box is very soft and supportive.

I saw some other people who got this shoe found the toe box to be somewhat narrow. I didn’t experience this problem myself. Even though the toe box is pointed, there is still plenty of space for your toes to breathe. I wouldn’t even say that there is a necessary breaking-in period for these shoes since they are already so soft.

The Details

After wearing them and walking around in them for a while, they only get more and more comfortable. I am also in love with the color and design of the Black 8 version of these Mona Flying heels. The silhouette of the heels is very much in the style of shoes from the 1950s and 1960s which I adore. The black color of the shoes is very dark and glistens in the light in a very attractive way.

The inside of the shoes is beige and the sole has a very delicate “Mona Flying” inscription. When I received the shoes, they came in a very well-designed box and each shoe was stored in a very soft cloth bag to protect the leather. There is even a small bag that contains two extra heel coverings in case the two original ones wear down after enough skedaddling.

This is not to mention that, according to the Amazon description, these shoes are handmade. Perhaps this is why the quality is so hard to beat. But is there anything I don’t like about these shoes?

The Cons

The only thing I have to say against these shoes is that the toebox is only comfortable if you cut your toenails very short. Otherwise, the toebox will stick to your toenails and uncomfortably tug at them. As long as you keep them cut short, this shouldn’t be a problem and the shoes should be very comfortable.

Another thing I don’t care for is the sizing chart. I usually wear a size 9.5 in most shoes but this shoe brand did not have a 9.5 size. Instead, they only had a size 9. I contemplated buying a size 10 based on some of the Amazon reviews saying that the shoe ran small. However, I decided against this after measuring my feet and applying the measurements to Mona flying’s size chart.

According to their chart, the size 9 would fit me fine, so I ordered it. I was surprised that they fit so well. To avoid any confusion, it would be helpful if the brand provided both a size 9 and size 9.5 option.

One more thing that I was a bit wary about was the price. I paid $128 for this pair of heels. This is more than I would usually spend on shoes and I wasn’t sure if I was making good use of my money. But once I got the shoes and saw their quality, I immediately knew that the price was worth it.

Final Thoughts

It’s safe to say that Mona Flying’s women’s leather pumps are one of my new favorite pairs of shoes. The Black 8 version in particular is very attractive, in my opinion. The leather is very black, very soft, and very comfortable. The shape of the shoe is also very classic and for that reason, it makes the shoe look unique.

The great thing about this shoe is that you can use it for pretty much any occasion, whether it be for a wedding or for walking around the office. Even though these shoes are more on the expensive side, the price is certainly worth it for the quality and style.
