How to Exfoliate Your Face the Right Way
How to exfoliate is more important than you might expect. If your skincare routine only consists of cleansers, serums, and moisturizers, you’re doing it wrong. While keeping your skin moisturized is always important, there is a point when you need to give your skin a fresh start. You can do that by learning how to exfoliate your face the right way.
Exfoliating your face is actually essential if you want to have young, clear skin. There are many ways to exfoliate your face but some are better than others. Some methods can even end up damaging your skin if you’re not careful.
What to Avoid When Exfoliating Your Face
When exfoliating your face, you will want to avoid cleansers with so-called exfoliating beads in them. While these beads claim to clean all the excess dead skin off your face, they actually do more harm than good. That’s because these beads tend to be too harsh and hard for your skin.
As a result, these beads will actually scratch the surface of your skin. This can make your skin look dull and uneven. You will also want to avoid any harsh chemical exfoliants.
Some masks and peels claim to do a great job exfoliating your skin, but in reality, they will only damage it. When it comes to exfoliating, being gentle is key.
How to Exfoliate Correctly
When exfoliating your skin, you will want to get your hands on a soft rag. Stay away from rags that are too rough as they might irritate your skin. Soak the rag in warm water and cleanser and gently move the rag in circles across your face.
Avoid scrubbing up and down or back and forth with the rag. These motions can stretch out your skin and cause wrinkles if you do it all the time. More than that, moving in circular motions will ensure that the rag cleans off all the excess dead skin cells on your face.

Try to exfoliate for a minute or two and then finish washing your face and put on moisturizer. If you don’t moisturize after exfoliating, your skin will become dry.
Exfoliating is great for unclogging your pores. When you don’t exfoliate, the oil your skin produces (called sebum) will eventually soak into your pores and clog them. This can cause blackheads, whiteheads, and big red pimples. Pimples form as a result because clogged pores can easily become inflamed.
Having a lot of excess skin cells on your face isn’t ideal either since they can make your complexion look dull and ashy. After you exfoliate, however, you will notice that your skin will look brighter and clearer than before. You should aim to exfoliate between two and three times per week.
Any more than this will irritate your skin. Any less than this will result in clogged pores and a dull complexion. If you don’t have a rag to exfoliate with, you can use certain brushes that are designed for your face. When using these brushes, be careful that the bristles are soft enough for your skin. If the bristles are too harsh, they could scratch and irritate your skin.
